Name: Clabaugh Bathroom Remodel in Dilworth

Bringing a Historic Home into Modern Times

The Clabaughs cherish their historic Dilworth home but wanted to bring their primary suite into modern times through a better layout, convenient features, stunning finishes, and a fresh color palette. The homeowners put their trust and bathroom remodel in the hands of the team at Hopedale Builders and designer Sara Scott of Tailored Designs in Charlotte. The collaboration was a match made in design heaven.

We began by reallocating 42” from the primary, or master, bedroom to enlarge their bathroom’s footprint. We also relocated and increased the size of the walk-in closet to create room for an impressive double vanity that boasts tons of custom storage. Sara also designed a floor-to-ceiling linen closet for maximum use of the space

Now, back to that magnificent double vanity. The clients’ bathroom originally had only one vanity. You can imagine how frustrating the morning routine must’ve been. Having a larger vanity, with lots of counter space between the sinks, gives everyone the room they need. The marble countertop, Shaker cabinets in bright white, and the polished nickel hardware in a timeless design is for this large vanity. The combination introduces a lot of style without fussy details that would be overwhelming for the space.

The walk-in shower features wavy subway tile on the walls and small tile in a herringbone pattern that offers just the right amount of visual texture. With a built-in bench and a handheld showerhead, the Clabaughs can more easily unwind at the end of the day. Just past the shower is a privacy closet of the commode–a necessity for any primary bathroom.

Timeless details bring the design all together for this historic home. The herringbone tile flooring in soft variations of gray, matching classic tilt vanity mirrors, a bell spout faucet with cross handles, and elegant sconces with lucite stems simply sing in this sophisticated space.

A notable challenge was making sure we didn’t have to involve the historic district in the remodel by working around the existing window. Doing this saved time and an exhausting process of revisions and applications. Between Sara Scott’s experience and keen eye and our expertise in fine craftsmanship and problem-solving, the Clabaughs now have a bathroom that suits their needs and indulges their sense of classic style.
