The Art of Balance: A Modern Oasis in Sedgefield

This stunning Sedgefield pool house project was the perfect start to our summer. Our clients were a pair of young professionals who wanted a pool house addition that could be cozy with just the two of them on a quiet evening but also the venue for a lively summer gathering the next evening! Of course, there are many top reasons to add a pool house, but there’s never a bad reason to go for a pool house addition. Hopedale Builders was brought on to the project because of our reputation for building custom pool houses that match the beauty and level of detail in our custom homes.

This Charlotte home addition isn’t just a pool house; it's an outdoor paradise.

Collaboration and Juxtaposition

The architectural plans from Josh Allison Architecture provided a modern, creative design. The goal for this pool house was balance—the balance between hosting and quiet evenings and the balance between the weather and a three-season outdoor oasis.

This pool house’s notable exterior was achieved by contrasting modern steel with timeless natural wood tones. One of the highlights of this custom structure is the Garapa wood feature wall and ceiling, which bring a rich, natural texture to the space. That warmth, juxtaposed with the industrial exposed steel, gives this structure a modern feel.

A Calming Color Palette

The interior of this pool house is what really elevates it into a space worth visiting and entertaining. Our team installed matte light gray and matte black porcelain tiles, while the honed granite countertops offer durability with a touch of elegance.

The outdoor kitchen has top-of-the-line appliances that would make any chef envious. We installed a Forno Bravo pizza oven that looks far too pretty in blue glass mosaic tiles with an open custom cutout underneath for wood storage, a Big Green Egg grill, a Delta professional faucet, and a Coyote wok power burner.

This pool house might be pretty, but it's not just about looks; it's an entertainment haven by design.  The fully equipped kitchen is just the start of what makes this Charlotte pool house an elevated part of this home. The TV area is the perfect cozy location for the big game or even a movie under the stars. Once Charlotte’s warm, humid nights finally turn cool, the Infratech outdoor heaters can keep everyone comfortable year-round.

The Challenges and the Final Outcome

Reshaping this empty yard into a luxurious oasis wasn't without its challenges. The installation of the 800-pound pizza oven was particularly daunting. Maneuvering it into the tight space without damaging the new structure or the existing house required an extra dose of precision and creative thinking. We used a Lull, a specialized lifting device, to place the oven carefully. Additionally, we intentionally reinforced the countertop to support the oven's weight while maintaining an open space for wood storage. While it wasn’t a suspension bridge, we were pretty happy with our micro-engineering feat.

The final outcome is nothing short of spectacular. What was once an ordinary yard is a relaxing oasis where the couple can unwind or host friends in style. Our client-focused process, the architect’s creative designs, and the high-quality building materials ensured the space was stunning and built to last.
